Seserahan is taken from the word ‘serah’ which literally means to give. Taken from the website of The House of Seserahan, Which is actually owned by the mother of a good friend of ours, Opiq.

“Seserahan has become common parts in wedding ceremony in Indonesia. In olden time, Seserahan is not a must, however, now seserahan has become a culture in a wedding ceremony.

Seserahan which is usually given by the groom to the bride is a symbol and prove to the bride’s family that the groom is responsible and able to fulfill all the bride’s need. In Javanese tradition seserahan will be given by the groom to the bride at the night before the wedding day where they held some ceremony.”
